2016~2020 China Global Television Network (CGTN), Senior Consultant,

Beijing Primary responsibilities included advising the channel on programming and evaluating shows for the channel’s directors,   and working with anchors, hosts, reporters, writers, video editors, copy editors, cameramen, and New Media staff to improve their writing, voicing, on-camera presentation, editing, and English language skills. Also worked on documentaries and special series. Helped set up co-productions with international broadcasters, and worked with the International HR department to evaluate and recruit candidates. Served on the judging panel for reporter auditions. Made trips to CGTN bureaus in Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shenyang and Zhengzhou to work with regional reporters and cameramen.

Assignments included consulting, corporate video and public relations work for Reuters TV, the Beijing Center for the Arts, the singer Dadawa, Young & Ann Communications. Claire PR, Empower-China and the China International Legal Affairs & Cultural Exchange Center (CILACEC).

Produced corporate videos and video news releases throughout Asia. Major clients included General Motors, Nike and Mercedes-Benz.


2005-2008 CBS News, Asia Bureau Chief, Tokyo

Coordinated coverage of Asia for all network news shows. Supervised CBS News bureaus in Tokyo, Beijing, Seoul, Manila and Delhi. Responsible for all bureau operations. Organized coverage of presidential trips and network pools in Asia.

Developed relationships with government officials and US public affairs officers in countries across the region. Supervised network coverage team for the Beijing Olympic Games. Set up a temporary Olympic workspace and live camera position.


2000-2004 Freelance Producer, Tokyo

News and documentary assignments included NBC News, the Discovery Channel, National Geographic Television, Star News Hong Kong and Granada TV/New York Times Television. NBC News assignments included a month in Pakistan and Af- ghanistan following the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.


1993-1999 ABC News, Beijing Bureau Chief

Responsible for coverage of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Supervised bureaus in Beijing and Hong Kong. Administered bureau operations, finances and staffing.

Produced spot news, feature stories and live remotes for World News Tonight, Good Morning America, Nightline and other ABC News broadcasts. Regional assignments included Tibet, North Korea, Mongolia, Cambodia and Australia.


1988-1992 World Monitor, Tokyo Bureau Chief and Asia Producer

Coordinated coverage of Asia for daily international news program, produced by the Christian Science Monitor and broadcast on the Discovery Channel. Managed twelve person bureau in Tokyo, a five person bureau in Manila and stringer reporters throughout Asia. Responsible for all aspects of bureau operations, including finance, administration, and staffing. Worked with print and radio journalists to develop broadcast writing skills and on-camera presence. Directed studio interviews and field produced news and feature stories in more than a dozen countries.


1986-1987 Entertainment Tonight, Segment Director, New York Bureau

Produced and directed news and feature stories for daily syndicated entertainment news program. Member of the Directors Guild of America.


1983-1986 ABC News, Producer, New York

Covered domestic and international stories including the 1984 Presidential cam campaigns of Gary Hart and Geraldine Ferraro, Halley’s comet and the America’s Cup races in Newport, Rhode Island.

Produced and directed segments for science series.


1978-1981 Animals, Animals, Animals, ABC News, Series Producer

Responsible for all aspects of production and post-production on Emmy and Peabody award winning weekly public affairs program for young people, produced by ABC News. Supervised animation, music, bumpers, graphics, title sequences and location shoots.  The program was hosted by Hal Linden and included commentaries by Roger Caras and songs by Lynn Kellogg.

Produced over fifty short film documentaries for Emmy and Peabody award winning weekly series.


1974-1975 AM America, ABC Television, Researcher/Associate Producer

Worked on taped segments and live remotes for daily two hour morning news and entertainment program produced by ABC, including coverage of space launches and presidential trips. Produced segments in Moscow for a special week of shows from the Russian capital and also served as the remote stage manager coordinating with the New York control room during the live broadcasts.


1973 ABC News, Production Assistant, Washington D.C.

Worked on the Senate Watergate Committee hearings, the resignation of Vice President Spiro Agnew, NASA space launches, and visits from foreign heads of state.
